The Maharashtra government advocated a change in possession of the company from M/s GVK Airport Developers Limited to M/s Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) to expand and operate the forthcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in the connecting Thane-Raigad region. At its weekly meeting, the State Cabinet – presided over by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray—gave authorization to AAHL to be the new concessionaire for the eminent greenfield airport being incurred as a public-private partnership (PPP) project.

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday signed Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) to administer the forthcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport in the neighbouring Thane-Raigad region, an official stated.

Earlier, GVK had to develop the airport and was being controlled by the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL). But last year it was obtained over by AAHL, and the likewise was confirmed by the Directorate of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, SEBI, CCI and eventually the CIDCO, which is supervising the mega-project.

With this initiation, the AAHL, directed by industrial magnate Gautam Adani, enhances as the most significant private airport operator running diverse major airports like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai (upcoming), Ahmedabad and Lucknow, besides three more possibly in the near future.

The AAHL- a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEHL)- now has a majority stake in the new airport, with 26 per cent pertaining to the AAI.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport extends up to 1,160 hectares of land. It is foreseen to become operational in 2023-2024 and is dignified to become the country’s leading airport over the next decade for both domestic and international flights.
