In Ahmedabad, Adani Total Gas has started a green hydrogen mixing pilot program. The business will mix natural gas with renewable hydrogen for 4,000 residential and business clients.

The project is expected to be commissioned by Q1FY24-25 and the percentage of green hydrogen will be gradually increased in the blend to up to 8 percent or more, depending on regulatory approvals,” the company said in a press release on November 28.  After successfully completing the pilot, the hydrogen blended fuel would be supplied to larger parts of the city and other license areas of AGTL.

Water undergoes electrolysis, a process in which electricity is used to divide the water into hydrogen and oxygen, to generate green hydrogen.

According to Adani Total Gas, the power required for electrolysis is produced using renewable energy. Gas and hydrogen were blended to lower the carbon intensity of the burning gas without sacrificing its heating properties.

Studies, according to Adani Total Gas, have shown that 8% hydrogen blends may cut carbon emissions by 4%.

The Adani group’s companies had a rally earlier in the day, which some experts attributed to the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the SEBI investigation into the group while delaying its decision on several pleas requesting an investigation into charges of accounting fraud, stock manipulation, and allegations made by US short-seller Hindenburg Research.
