Twitter Inc. has won a court ruling that requires laid-off workers in a dispute with the company over severance pay to sue through individual arbitration rather than a collective action.
Hundreds of workers who were laid off after Elon Musk took over the social network in October have already filed an arbitration lawsuit.
A lawyer who said he had filed at least 300 such lawsuits told Twitter that the process could be costly.
“Insisting that workers file claims one by one has backfired for many companies our firm has taken on,” lawyer Shannon Liss-Riordan stated in a statement this week. “These companies think they can make employees just go away and not assert their rights by using arbitration clauses, but we have made them sorry about what they wished for.”
