According to a report by consulting firm Hotelivate, demand for hotel rooms will exceed supply over the next five years, and hotel room shortages are likely.

There are currently around 1,500 branded hotel rooms in India, with a planned supply of 35,000 rooms (under active development), with a total of around 7,000 added rooms per year. This is a supply increase of just 4.5%.
