In Kashmir, significant snowfall causes avalanche warnings, hinders travel, and raises temperatures in some places.

Kashmir Is on Avalanche Alert

Authorities in Kashmir have issued avalanche warnings for mountainous areas, advising locals to avoid needless movement in the next 24 hours after elevated portions of the Kashmir valley saw heavy snowfall.

In most places, the valley’s snowfall resulted in lower daytime temperatures and higher minimum temperatures. According to the Meteorological Department’s prognosis, Kashmir’s weather could get better starting on Tuesday.

A landslide in Jammu’s Ramban district at about 11:15 am caused all flights at Srinagar airport to be canceled and traffic on the vital 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to be stopped for almost four hours, according to officials. Six of the private airline IndiGo’s flights, two of which were headed for Leh and four of which were for Srinagar, were canceled owing to bad weather, the company said in a statement from Mumbai.

Snowfall along the Ramsu-Banihal-Srinagar route affected the helicopter service to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. A number of areas, including Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, and the upper Reasi valley, reported snowfall. As a result, the valley’s minimum temperatures increased.

The area is still experiencing a cold wave during the 20-day “Chilla-i-Khurd” (little cold), which is followed by a 10-day “Chilla-i-Bachha” (baby cold), even if the 40-day hardest winter period has ended.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for significant precipitation or snowfall on February 5th in certain areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim.

A recent spate of snowfall and rainfall in Himachal Pradesh resulted in the closure of 475 roads, including five national highways.

The day’s driving conditions were adversely affected by the poor visibility caused by the persistently cloudy sky. The state saw snowfall in a number of areas. The most notable areas were Kalpa in Kinnaur, which received 5.6 mm of snow; Bharmaur received 5 cm; Gondla received 4.2 cm; Keylong received 3 cm; Khadrala and Kufri received 2 cm each; Kukumseri received 1.6 cm; and Sangla and Pooh received 1 cm each.

After heavy snowfall in the state’s higher regions and Sunday’s rains in its lower portions, Uttarakhand saw extremely cold weather. The Uttarkashi district’s Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Hemkund, Auli, Dehradun’s Chakrata, Chaurangikhal, and Nachiketa Tal all saw snowfall. On Saturday night, there was also rain in a number of places in the state, including Dehradun.
