Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced changes to Delhi Metro train operating hours on Diwali Day.

“On account of the Diwali festival, the last metro train services will start at 10 pm on October 24,” mentioned the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. However, the DMRC added that 11:00 p.m. on a normal day is the normal time.

Please note that the last train of the Delhi Metro usually runs at 23:00 on weekdays. The changed hours on Diwali day apply to all metro corridors in the state capital. Meanwhile, major traffic disruptions were reported on the highways of Delhi and Gurugram on Friday before the holiday.

The highway between Delhi and Gurugram was jammed with drivers honking their horns. Another congested area is the Delhi Lajpat Nagar Market, which has caused severe congestion on most roads connecting the capital and the outskirts. The Sahar border crossing on the highway connecting Delhi and Gurugram is closed due to heavy traffic.

In further development, earlier this week the Delhi government approved the cutting and transplanting of 316 trees for the construction of the Janakpuri-RK Ashram metro corridor.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has implied the construction of a new Delhi Metro Corridor extending from Janakpuri to RK Ashram. These trees got in the way of the construction of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “We have cleared the path for construction of a new metro corridor between Janakpuri and RK Ashram, today. DMRC has been given permission to remove and transplant 316 trees obstructing the project, provided they compensate by planting 3,160 more trees.”
