“It’s been an honor to see you rise. In all of our interactions, you’ve shown a certain joie de vivre and determination, both of which are testaments to the leader you are. “Everyone, she’s one to keep an eye on,” the former PepsiCo chairman wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Indra Nooyi has been hailed as a buddy and mentor by Leena Nair. On Wednesday, Nair was named CEO of Chanel, following Alain Wertheimer, who was previously a co-owner of the fashion house. Alain will be appointed as Chanel’s worldwide executive chairman.

Nair expressed her delight on Twitter on Wednesday, saying she was “humbled and honored to be named the Global Chief Executive Officer of Chanel, an iconic and renowned company.”

“I am really inspired by what Chanel represents.” “It is a corporation that believes in the freedom of invention, in developing human potential, and in acting to make a positive difference in the world,” she added in the following tweet.

Growing up in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, the 52-year-old earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Walchand College of Engineering in Sangli and an MBA from the famed Xavier School of Management (XLRI) in Jamshedpur before joining Hindustan Unilever as a trainee in 1992.

Nair was Unilever’s first female and youngest-ever Chief Human Resources Officer when she departed in 2016 to join Chanel.

She has joined the ranks of several Indian-origin leaders who hold top positions in some of the world’s largest organizations, including Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Google parent firm Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, among others.
