Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate a 13.71-kilometer portion of the Bengaluru Metro Phase II project on Saturday in election-bound Karnataka.

At 1 p.m., Modi will formally open the section of the metro line that connects Krishnarajapura to the Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro as part of the Reach-1 Extension Project (KR Puram). Modi will ride the train as well in honour of the occasion.

Around 10.45 a.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi will first go to Chikkaballapura to attend the launch of the SMSIMSR (Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research). The anticipated time for Modi’s arrival in Bengaluru is Saturday morning. The SMSIMSR, which will start functioning this year, will provide gratis access to top-notch medical care and training.

Constructed for around Rs. 4,250 crores. With the KR Puram–Whitefield line, a trip that would often take over an hour by car will now take just 24 minutes. Three lakh passengers are projected to benefit from the route, which has 12 stops and will have direct pedestrian access to the ITPL complex at Pattandur Agrahara Metro station.

It is a portion of the much anticipated 15.81 km segment of the Purple Line in Bengaluru’s Metro system that runs from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield. This railroad has an unfinished section of around 2.1 kilometres. The route consists of two reaches, R1A and R1B, each measuring 8.67 km from Baiyappanahalli to Seetharama Palya (on the KR Puram stretch) and 7.14 km from Seetharama Palya to Whitefield, respectively.

Benniganahalli, K R Puram, Mahadevapura, Garudacharpalya, Hoodi Junction, Seetharama Palya, Kundalahalli, Nallurhalli, Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, Pattandur Agrahara (ITPL), Kadugodi, and Channasandra are the twelve stations on the route. The KR Puram-Whitefield section is slated to open this weekend, while the Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram link is most likely to open by June.

The Karnataka Congress has raised concerns over the BJP administration’s choice to convince PM Modi to activate the metro line even though it is still being built between Baiyapanahalli and K R Puram.

“Why is PM Modi inaugurating the Purple Metro Line without the building of the necessary metro link between Baiyappanahalli Metro Station and KR Puram Metro Station?” said Randeep Surjewala, national general secretary of the Congress, in a speech delivered on March 21 in Bengaluru.

According to state officials, the opening of this metro line, which was built for an estimated $4,250 crores, would give commuters in Bengaluru a clean, safe, quick, and pleasant transport option, boosting convenience and easing traffic congestion in the city.
