The Pacific island countries were reassured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) summit that India is a dependable development partner. In addition to emphasising the value of a free and open Indo-Pacific, he said that India respects other countries’ sovereignty.

In addition, Modi emphasised India’s goals for its Minister Narendra Modi, which revolve around the concept of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled a 12-step action plan to strengthen ties with Pacific Island nations on the sidelines of the Forum for India-Pacific Island Cooperation (FIPIC) conference in Papua New Guinea. There will also be a supply of desalination units for drinking water, a 100-bed regional super specialty hospital in Fiji, and 1000 Sagar Amrut Scholarships during the following five years.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of external affairs, Arindam Bagchi, stated in a tweet that the agreement “will consolidate the shared vision of a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific” and that it will “fulfill the developmental aspirations of the people of the region.”

A regional hub for IT and cyber security training would be established by India in Papua New Guinea, along with Jan Aushadi Kendras, yoga studios, and dialysis facilities.

The importance of an Indo-Pacific region that is free and open was again emphasized by PM Modi in his speech, and he stated that the Quad is working in this direction.

He underlined the value of multilateralism and the importance of upholding each nation’s sovereignty and integrity. The conference took place as China worked to increase both its military and diplomatic influence in the area.

According to the news agency PTI, Modi declared, “Like you, we believe in multilateralism; support a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific; and respect the sovereignty and integrity of all countries.”

He claimed that it is being worked towards by the Quad, which consists of the United States, Australia, Japan, and India.

Whether it’s digital technology or space technology, food security or health security, climate change or environmental protection, we are willing to share our skills and experiences with you. We are with you every step of the way,” he stated.

Modi argued that the UN Security Council should give special attention to the voice of the developing world.

It should be everyone’s first priority to change international institutions, he said. Together with his colleague from Papua New Guinea, PM Modi served as co-chair of the conference. The Act East Policy of New Delhi includes India’s interaction with the 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs).
