Superstar Shah Rukh Khan returns to the big screen for the third time this year with the social dramedy Dunki.
Everyone was excited about the movie because it was SRK’s first film with a unique director, Rajkumar Hirani.
When it first premiered on Thursday, it had mixed responses from both audiences and critics.
How it does this weekend is crucial for its success.
In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan hit the jackpot. His movies ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ both made over 1000 crores each worldwide. Everyone was looking forward to his third movie, ‘Dunki.’ Sadly, it didn’t impress the crowd on opening day. Sacnilk, a film industry tracker, reported that the Raj Kumar Hirani directed movie made only Rs 30 crore locally.
Hirani’s films are usually carried by positive word of mouth, and this weekend will be critical for Dunki’s financial survival.
Dunki is the seventh-biggest opening of the year, with an opening of Rs 30 crore at the domestic box office, behind Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, Tiger 3, Gadar 2, and Adipurush. Jawan took in Rs 75 crore on its first day, while Adipurush took in Rs 36 crore.
Dunki had an overall occupancy of 29.94%, according to Sacnilk. The NCR region had a 31% occupancy rate, whereas Mumbai had a 29.75% occupancy rate.
About ‘Dunki’
Dunki is a Hindi comedy film based on the illegal immigration tactic of “donkey flights.” The film was directed by Raj Kumar Hirani and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Jio Studios.
Among those in the cast are Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Grover, and Vikram Kochhar. Gauri Khan is a co-producer on the project.
‘Dunki’s’ story is passionate, including friendship, romance, and heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. The romantic love tale of Manu and Hardy unfolds from Laltu to London and back. And, in true Hirani style, there are dollops of comedy laced with satire to make it a delightful ride, in addition to the film’s strong message.
Vicky Kaushal makes an excellent cameo, and you do get to see the delightful Shah Rukh Khan again. Finally, unlike the idealized depictions of violence in films, ‘Dunki’ is a family-friendly film that leaves you feeling wholesome.
Even though there have been rumors of “unfair” methods by theater owners, who allegedly gave the SRK movie more screens, the movie is expected to earn the biggest box office revenue.
