Day 1 box office receipts for Animal: The Ranbir Kapoor film has outperformed Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan on its first day of sales. Animal has made Rs 61 crore, compared to Rs 57 crore for Pathaan.

Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, has made an amazing start to the domestic box office. Although many critics criticized the Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed picture for being misogynistic when it first came out, this movie, like Vanga’s earlier one, Kabir Singh, has found its audience. Early estimates of the film’s earnings in India put it at Rs 61 crore net, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala estimates the movie’s worldwide gross collection on its opening day to be between Rs 110 and Rs 115 crore. On opening day, he added in a tweet that the movie brought in $2.5 million in North America.

With 1318 screens in the Delhi NCR, the movie saw an occupancy rate of more than 79%. Animal performed 1040 gigs in Mumbai, where more than 55% of the seats were occupied. In Hyderabad, Telugu, on the other hand, the movie had 316 showings with an occupancy rate of more than 82%. The Tamil version of the movie played in 88 theaters in Chennai, where just 30% of the seats were occupied.

The greatest opening of the year thus far is Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, which grossed Rs 75 crore on its first day of release in India. Animal has occupied the second position, which was formerly occupied by Pathaan, which earned Rs 57 crore on its opening day. After earning Rs 44.50 crore on its first day, Tiger 3 is the next in line.

Animal debuted opposite Sam Bahadur, starring Vicky Kaushal, which has only made a meager Rs 5.5 crore nett in India. Sam Bahadur looks to be surpassed by Animal, but Vicky Kaushal’s film may benefit from the divisive reaction to the Ranbir Kapoor flick.

Initially opening at the box office with Rs 20.21 crore, Sandeep’s 2018 film Kabir Singh went on to earn over Rs 278 crore net during its run in India. Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and earning Rs 342.53 crore, has become Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest box office success to date. With its first-day collection of Rs 34.75 crore, it was also his best opening to date, but Animal has since surpassed it.
