Agritech Firm Superplum

Superplum, an agritech startup that offers quality fresh fruits, announced on Monday that it has raised $15 million from investors to grow its business. The startup announced that it has completed its Series A investment round, which raised $15 million.

The company’s newly appointed chairman, Erik Ragatz, a former partner and current senior advisor of the international private equity firm Hellman & Friedman, spearheaded the funding round.

He joins a distinguished group of current investors that includes Mark Siegel, Dan Rose, Steve Jurvetson, Rick Kimball, Binny Bansal, and Kabir Misra.

Superplum, launched in 2019, plans to use the capital to create infrastructure and revolutionize India’s produce supply chains.

Superplum has created a direct-from-farm food supply chain, utilizing unique technologies and cold-chain infrastructure to significantly enhance how fruit is farmed and delivered to market.

It sells a variety of fruits, including mangos, litchis, apples, grapes, cherries, and plums.

It also provides traceability, allowing customers to see pesticide test results for each batch and follow the fruit from farm to table.

The company’s vertically integrated cold chain technology extends shelf life and improves fruit quality, increasing produce availability across the country while minimizing food waste and, ultimately, enhancing farmer incomes.

The organization works with farmers in 22 states of India and operates contemporary sourcing and supply networks for 25 fruits throughout the year.

Erik Ragatz, Superplum’s new Chairman, stated, “Superplum is a hugely disruptive player in existing Indian produce markets and has the opportunity to create an incredibly valuable enterprise.”

Shobhit Gupta, the company’s co-founder and CEO, stated, “The rapidly developing Indian consumer market is becoming increasingly demanding. While India has achieved significant progress in several areas, fresh food still lacks technology and investment.

Superplum is available online from Amazon Fresh, Zepto, Swiggy, and Blinkit. The company’s premium fruits are also available at large shops such as Spar, Metro, Lulu, Modern Bazaar, More, and Trent, as well as hundreds of neighborhood stores in Delhi and Bangalore. They will soon be accessible in Mumbai.

The company has also lately begun promoting its branded, traceable items abroad.

Superplum, which has a world-class supply chain, believes there are significant prospects for premium Indian mangoes, lychees, and other tropical fruits.
