vivo ignite India

Vivo India has announced the launch of the fourth edition of its flagship education initiative, vivo Ignite: Technology and Innovation Initiative, aimed at encouraging school students to develop technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.

Open to students from Grades 8 to 12, the nationwide programme seeks to nurture young innovators by providing a platform to transform ideas into practical solutions aligned with India’s development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Registrations for the programme are open from April 21 to June 30 through the official portal. The initiative will be conducted in seven stages, culminating in a National Finale scheduled for October 11 in New Delhi, where the top 10 finalists will present their prototypes.

Over its past three editions, vivo Ignite has seen strong and growing participation from across the country. The third edition alone received over 37,000 registrations from 9,000+ schools across 660+ districts – double the participation of the year before, reinforcing the programme’s expanding national footprint and relevance among students and educators.

In the second edition, held between November 2023 and February 2024, the initiative received more than 19,000 registrations and over 4,000 projects countrywide. ‘SMART STREET – Where Innovation Meets Sustainability’ won the first prize worth INR 7 lakhs for presenting a prototype aimed at implementing smart streets for safer, greener, scenic roads.

In the third edition of the initiative, the individual category winning project, “AI Powered Criminal Activity Detection through Sensor-less Sensing”, demonstrated an AI-led approach to enhancing public safety, while group category winning project “ArmX – Smart Rehabilitation System” highlighted the role of innovation in improving healthcare outcomes.

What’s new in the fourth edition

Building on the strong participation in previous editions, which saw over 37,000 registrations from more than 9,000 schools across 660 districts, this year’s edition introduces new features to enhance inclusivity and mentorship. These include special weightage for students from aspirational districts and government schools, the introduction of an “Achiever 30” stage for focused mentorship, and a Teacher Innovation Grant of ₹50,000 for educators supporting top finalists. Participants can submit entries individually or in groups of up to three members across categories such as community development, agriculture, climate change, and soft-tech innovations.

How to register and submit

Applications are currently open via the official website (vivoignite.com) from April 21 to June 30. Registration and participation in this program are free. Students must register with parental consent and complete a nine-step submission process that includes selecting relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals, uploading supporting materials, and creating a Project Display Board that explains their innovation, its inspiration, and real-world impact.

The programme is supported by knowledge partners including NCERT, IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, Science Olympiad Foundation, and UN Global Compact Network India.
