The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has awarded a contract for Rs 350 crore to Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRL), formerly known as Titagarh Waggons, for the design, construction, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of 30 standard gauge cars.

Indian Railways, which transports millions of tonnes of commodities annually, including raw materials, completed goods, and agricultural products, is the lifeblood of the nation’s economy. Compared to driving, it is a less expensive and more environmentally friendly means of transportation.
According to an official, the standard gauge carriages are for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II project.
There will be ten trains, each with three cars.
The GMRC is spending Rs 13,500 crore on the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II project. The project will extend the city’s current network of Metro lines by 28.2 kilometres.
“The prototype Metro car has to be built in 70 weeks and the entire contract has to be delivered in 94 weeks. The cars will be manufactured at our Uttarpara plant in Hooghly district,” Titagarh Rail Systems director (marketing & business development) Prithish Chowdhary told PTI.
The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) recently awarded the Kolkata-based business a contract worth around Rs 850 crore to deliver 24 metro trains for Phase-I of the Surat metro.
TRL is also participating in a number of other national Metro rail projects.
