Manchester city along with tech giant Sony are building a metaverse. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023, tech giant Sony gave attendees a sneak peek of the metaverse experience it is creating with football team Manchester City.

The verge reports that sony and Manchester city are claiming that this will be an experience of “proof of concept” which will enable players to participate in activities at a virtual version of the team’s  Etihad stadium with their own custom avatars

Virtual avatars can be seen dancing and having fun together while running around the field and stadium in an official video released by “Sony-Global.”.

Nami Iwamoto, a senior product planner at Sony, said during the tech giant’s CES 2023 keynote.”Avatars 3D images and “other expressions unique to the metaverse” will allow players to communicate “in a new way,”

Another video posted by the tech giant shows that sony used only seven sensors to monitor the movements, record footage and to volume data from the Manchester city players in order to digitally create their avatar in the metaverse

It is still uncertain whether the avatar creation, virtual stadium, and highlights will all be included in that application, according to Yo Kikuchi, a spokesperson for a tech giant, who also announced that the “app” will be released this year.

The partnership between Sony and Manchester city was announced back in November 2021, According to the report, at the time, the project was referred to as a proof-of-concept (PoC) by both Sony and Manchester City.
