The standalone Dubsmash app won’t be available for download after Febraury 22, 2022. Reddit said, as it rolled out new camera and editing features as part of its video tools.

Dubsmash was acquired by Reddit back in December 2020. The company proclaimed closing services of Dubsmash next year and the app won’t be available for download on Google Play Store and App Store after February 22.

TikTok’s massive success with short-form videos has driven alternative social networks to include the format on their platforms, Example: Snap Inc rolls out Spotlight; Facebook, currently Meta Platforms, launched Instagram Reels; and Alphabet’s YouTube launched Shorts. Dubsmash was particularly popular among Black and Latinx users. At the end of 2020, Reddit noted 25 percent of all Black teens in the US were on the platform at the end of 2020.

“With an aim of empowering Reddit’s own creators to express themselves in original ways that are authentic to our communities.” The Dubsmash team would move to the Reddit app, where it will continue to integrate video features and build new experiences. Dubsmash users can still be able to connect Dubsmash community.
