Iom Bioworks, a health tech startup based out of Bengaluru, raised ₹4 crore through a seed funding round that was led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV). The Bangalore-based startup is looking to use this round of funding to expand its reach, protect its technology (patent), enhance its functionality, and add team members.

Iom Bioworks, founded in 2022, is working to improve health by focusing on studying and improving the gut microbiome, the collection of bacteria living in the digestive system. The startup believes that these tiny organisms impact everything from digestion to immunity and metabolism, and even mental health.

The Iom Bioworks employs artificial intelligence (AI) and scientific research to understand the unique gut bacteria of each individual. With this knowledge, it provides personalized recommendations of foods and prebiotics to help users nurture their health naturally. Users can test their gut health from home through Iom Bioworks’ digital-first platform. The platform includes at-home testing kits and health reports that lay-out and explain gut health in an easy-to-understand manner.

“We envision a world where health is driven by nurturing the microbiome through food and lifestyle,” said Bipin Pradeep Kumar, Co-Founder and CEO of Iom Bioworks. “Partnering with IPV has helped us accelerate toward this vision with deeper support and market reach.”

The startup has achieved a great deal in just one year. It has obtained over 500 users, published scientific papers, obtained two international patents, and two more patents are in progress. The startup built a pan-India logistics system for distributing its gut testing kits and delivering its services across the country.

Vinay Bansal, the Founder of Inflection Point Ventures, said, “As lifestyle diseases surge, the gut microbiome holds the key to more proactive and personalised care, Iom Bioworks’ science-backed platform is a compelling bet in the preventive healthcare space.”

The new investments will help the startup build out its scientific and commercial teams, continue its research, and enhance its offering. It will also be used to protect its intellectual property and add additional features to its platform.

The global wellness and diagnostics market is growing rapidly and is poised to reach USD 900 billion by 2030, a growth rate of 28% every year. As the market continues to grow, Iom Bioworks is focused on becoming a leader in gut health and personalized wellness solutions.
