Digi Yatra: Paperless entry at 3 airports by March this year

There are currently Digi Yatra facilities at three airports including Delhi, Bangalore, and Varanasi.

Digi Yatra, the Civil Aviation Ministry’s initiative for biometric boarding systems using facial recognition technology, will be rolled out at Kolkata, Pune, Vijayawada, and Hyderabad airports by March 2023, an official statement released Thursday said.

Currently, three airports, including Delhi, Bangalore, and Varanasi, have Digi Yatra facilities where passengers can complete contactless and paperless check-in and boarding based on facial biometrics. Released on December 1, 2022.

He further indicated that the expenses of implementing Digi Yatra are borne by the airport operator as the Ministry of Civil Aviation has not provided any budgetary support for its implementation.

“To give wide publicity to Digi Yatra, airport operators, and airline operators are doing in-flight announcements, publicity through boarding passes, providing help desk support, and displaying banners and films, etc. at the airports. Publicity is also being done through social media. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has awarded the work for the implementation of the Biometric Boarding System at Kolkata, Pune, Vijayawada, and Varanasi airports,” the statement added. 

The Digi Yatra app is a free app available for both Android and iOS phones and can be downloaded to any smartphone using the Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for iPhone.

This application enables contactless identification, reducing time spent at security, boarding gates, and airport entry.

Passengers can obtain a Digi Yatra ID by providing information such as name, email address, mobile phone number, and identification features (Aadhaar, driver’s license, voter ID, etc.).

Enter this information to create your Digi Yatra ID. Must be shared when purchasing tickets. The departure airport receives this identifier and passenger data from the airline.
