Bengaluru-based e-commerce startup ShopOS has raised $20 million. 3STATE Ventures, the investing firm created by Binny Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart led the round.
The company will use the new capital to build out their product, expand its engineering team, and attract more e-commerce brands onto its platform in India and other countries, to expand globally.
What ShopOS Does
ShopOS is building an AI-based platform that will help brands quickly create, and manage their online stores. The platform utilizes AI to:
- Generate product descriptions
- Create product images and product videos
- Change store layouts based on who is visiting
- Generate marketing campaigns to attract customers
This helps businesses save time and effort while growing faster online.
The People Who Started ShopOS
ShopOS was started by Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V, who previously co-founded the tech start-up Scapic, which Flipkart acquired in 2020. After the acquisition, Sai and Ajay worked at Flipkart and helped set up Flipkart Labs, working on next-generation technology in shopping. They are joined by Karan Sonawala, also a former Flipkart employee, who led projects related to AI and immersive commerce.
In a joint statement, the founders said, “The friction in content creation and personalization are significant drags on growth. Our previous startup journey taught us the importance of solving hard problems, and with ShopOS, we are focused on delivering what AI agents can truly do for brands. We are building from India for the globe and with this funding milestone, we wish to tap into the smartest AI minds in India to build the future of Commerce,”
A Worldwide Vision
ShopOS has already acquired early customers from India, Europe, and the UAE, demonstrating the platform’s global appeal. The team is now focused on expanding into additional markets.
Binny Bansal’s Expanded Support for Startups
This investment continues Binny Bansal’s trend of increased activity in e-commerce and software startups. He invested approximately $2 million in OppDoor in March 2024, which enables online retail brands to scale onto the global stage. He recently launched Opptra, which helps brands to expand in Asia with franchising.
Bansal’s investment in ShopOS is part of a larger trend that involves ex-leaders of Flipkart backing new, tech-based startups. ShopOS benefited by being based in Bengaluru (the home of Flipkart) and targeting a large global audience.
The new funding gives ShopOS energy as they work on reaching more customers and developing the future of online shopping through AI.
