GTA 6 pre-orders

Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders rose an estimated 436% on August 27 after Rockstar Games premiered an extended look at the title on Netflix, according to market-intelligence data from Sensor Tower.

The increase was measured against the previous day and represents modelled sales rather than figures released by Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive.

Demand remained elevated on August 28. Sensor Tower estimated that pre-order activity across the two days was 572% above the average recorded during the preceding 30 days.

The figures show the immediate commercial effect of Rockstar’s decision to give Netflix a six-hour exclusive window for the 26-minute presentation before releasing it through the company’s website and YouTube channel.

GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Records the Strongest Increase

The GTA 6 pre-order surge was considerably larger on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox.

Sensor Tower estimated that PS5 pre-orders climbed 606% on August 27, while Xbox Series X|S reservations increased 127%. These percentages compare each platform with its own earlier level and should not be interpreted as a direct comparison of same-day unit sales.

PlayStation had already established a substantial lead before the presentation. Sensor Tower previously estimated that approximately 77% of early orders were placed for the PS5 edition, compared with 23% for Xbox.

The analytics company placed total pre-orders at roughly 4.6 million before the Netflix event. It uses proprietary consumer panels and data-science models to calculate its numbers, meaning they are estimates rather than audited sales totals.

Take-Two and Rockstar have not published an official global pre-order count or confirmed the percentage increases reported by Sensor Tower.

The stronger PlayStation response may partly reflect the content of the presentation. Rockstar said the entire extended look was captured from in-game footage running on a PlayStation 5.

That does not mean the game is exclusive to Sony’s console. GTA 6 is also confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, while Rockstar has not announced a PC version or PC release date.

Netflix Gains Traffic From Gaming Audience

The Netflix extended look also delivered a measurable increase in activity for the streaming platform.

Sensor Tower estimated that US mobile users during the premiere hour were almost 50% above the average recorded during the same period across the previous 12 Thursdays.

Web traffic increased by more than 125% against the comparable average. Netflix’s application also climbed 61 positions to reach No. 35 on Apple’s App Store ranking within 24 hours.

Netflix has not disclosed the number of people who watched the showcase or the financial terms of its agreement with Rockstar. The traffic estimates nevertheless indicate that the event attracted users who may not normally open the service for a video-game presentation.

The partnership gave Netflix a major entertainment event without requiring it to develop the game. Rockstar, meanwhile, gained access to a broad film and television audience before distributing the footage freely through its regular channels.

Netflix described the launch as a cultural moment and said it was honoured to host the first showing for members. The exclusive period lasted six hours, limiting the delay for viewers who did not have a subscription.

Extended Look Shows Jason, Lucia and Leonida

The presentation offered a deeper view of protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, whose story unfolds across Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida.

Rockstar showed police chases, gunfights, driving, basketball and underwater exploration alongside slower scenes focused on the characters and their relationship. The company described the footage as in-game, although the presentation remained highly cinematic rather than providing a continuous, unedited gameplay demonstration.

Pre-orders officially opened on June 25. In the United States, the Standard Edition is priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99.

Rockstar’s official store lists digital versions for both launch platforms. The company is also offering physical packages containing download codes instead of discs, with availability and pre-loading beginning on November 12.

Orders placed before the release window closes include the Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring a vehicle, outfits, hairstyles and a weapon pattern. Digital purchases also include one month of GTA+ membership.

Sensor Tower has estimated that close to 90% of early buyers selected the more expensive Ultimate Edition. Rockstar has not confirmed that split.

The latest pre-order movement demonstrates the strength of GTA 6 demand nearly three months before launch. It also shows how a carefully controlled presentation can influence both game sales and traffic for the distribution partner hosting it.

The 436% increase should be treated as an outside estimate, not an official sales disclosure. Even with that limitation, the scale of the reported jump indicates that the Netflix presentation converted a significant burst of attention into new reservations for one of the year’s most anticipated entertainment releases.
