By 2024, 1 lakh electric scooters will be used by the online food delivery service Zomato, according to a statement from Zypp Electric on Tuesday.

According to the business, the partnership is part of Zomato’s bigger strategy to switch to all-electric operations by 2030.

With the help of this partnership, we will be able to drastically cut our carbon footprint while offering our consumers additional environmentally friendly last-mile delivery options. “We look forward to cooperating to create more effective and environmentally friendly deliveries,” said Mohit Sardana, COO of Zomato’s food delivery.

Over 13,000 electric vehicles have been put on the road by Zypp Electric, a company that has raised $37.5 million to date ($30 million in equity and $7.5 million in debt or asset leasing).

The majority of food delivery vehicles are two-wheelers that operate on gasoline, but there are plans to switch to electric vehicles in order to reduce expenses. According to Tushar Mehta, COO and Co-Founder of Zypp Electric, “We seek to create a more efficient, sustainable, and customer-centric delivery experience by using our EV fleet management system and cutting-edge partner solutions.

Gogoro, a leading worldwide technology company in the battery-swapping ecosystem, led the $25 million series B investment round for the EV-as-a-service platform in February. Gogoro, a leader in the field of battery swapping ecosystems, as well as recent and seasoned investors including Goodyear Ventures, 9Unicorns, WFC, Venture Catalysts, LetsVenture, IAN, Ivygrowth, Grip, and others, took part in it.

By 2025, Zypp hopes to expand its presence to 30 Indian cities and grow its fleet of electric vehicles from 10,000 to 200,000 with the help of additional financing.

In India, delivery services are moving towards cleaner modes of transportation. Amazon wants to have 10,000 EVs available for deliveries by 2025, and Walmart’s Flipkart wants 25,000 EVs available by 2030.

By enabling big e-commerce, supermarket, food delivery, and ride-sharing firms to go electric, Zypp Electric seeks to provide last-mile delivery. The business claimed that up until February 2023, it had made 15 million deliveries using electric cars for its network of e-commerce partners, saving 33 million kilograms of carbon dioxide. Zomato, Myntra, BigBasket, Dunzo, PharmEasy, Swiggy, Flipkart e-commerce, and Zepto are a few of the partners it has on board.

“With the aid of finance, Zypp worked on enhancing its driver experience further, constructing a cutting-edge IOT and AI-enabled EV fleet management system, developing its EV hub infrastructure with Gogoro battery swapping, and increasing its operations staff by hiring across technology and top-level jobs.
