Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the renovated Ayodhya railway station on Saturday and virtually kicked off two Amrit Bharat and six Vande Bharat trains.

He will also dedicate an airport and lay the groundwork for several development projects in Uttar Pradesh.

Following his arrival in the temple town, Prime Minister Modi undertook a roadshow from the airport to the train station, where he was met by a big crowd that had gathered along the route. Modi welcomed people from his car, and at one point, he opened the door to wave back. People showered him with flower petals and raised chants in his honor.

Along the way, the prime minister was treated to performances by cultural troupes. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who met Modi at the airport, said in a post on X, “Hearty welcome and greetings to respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in Shri Ayodhya Dham…

Following the roadshow, the airport and railway station would be opened. Following the station’s inauguration, the prime minister toured the site.

Adityanath, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and others accompanied him. Vaishnaw informed Modi about the station. According to authorities, Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station, Phase-I of the renovated station, has been finished at more than Rs 240 crore.

The three-story train station structure has elevators, escalators, food plazas, puja shops, cloakrooms, childcare facilities, and waiting halls. According to authorities, the station building is “accessible to all” and an “IGBC-certified green station building.”

The prime minister gave the green light to two new Amrit Bharat trains: the Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Amrit Bharat Express and the Malda Town-Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru) Amrit Bharat Express. He also unveiled six new Vande Bharat trains. These include the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express, the Amritsar-Delhi Vande Bharat Express, the Coimbatore-Bangalore Cantt Vande Bharat Express, the Mangalore-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express, the Jalna-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express, and the Anand Vihar Terminal Vande Bharat Express.

Modi will also participate in a public event where he will launch and lay the groundwork for development projects worth over Rs 15,700 crore in Uttar Pradesh. These include projects of around Rs 11,100 crore for developing Ayodhya and its surrounding regions, as well as projects worth approximately Rs 4,600 crore for additional work across Uttar Pradesh.
