On Monday, GitHub India laid off 142 engineers, according to the report. The laid-off staff has been granted two months’ salary as severance, the article stated.

The layoff was not based on the performance of workers. The full engineering staff at GitHub India was asked to leave.

The laid-off workers have been required to sign a rigorous Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place of the severance compensation, the report stated.

Last month, the Microsoft-owned corporation stated it will let rid of 10 percent of its workers to save expenses. GitHub allegedly employs over 3,000 workers worldwide.

The internet hosting service company also warned in February that it would suspend hirings until further notice.

Microsoft-owned GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke has issued an email to staff defending the actions.

The email said, “We are announcing several painful choices, including saying goodbye to certain Hubbers and executing significant budgetary realignments, meant to safeguard the short-term health of our company while also affording us the ability to invest in our long-term vision.”

GitHub was bought by Microsoft in 2018. In October last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that GitHub’s income was around $1 billion yearly.

In January, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella indicated that the business will be laying off 10,000 people by the third quarter of FY23, which he claimed is less than 5 percent of the company’s workforce.

“These choices are unpleasant but important,” Nadella added.
