According to research by the India Welfare Trust, the chance to raise Rs. 7,500 crores via staff volunteering for charitable purposes at India Inc. 

According to the research “Volunteering in 100 Top Companies in India,” 78% of the top 100 companies in India questioned acknowledged employee engagement in volunteer programs, however only 26% revealed the number of volunteers and 39% stated the number of volunteer hours.

In aggregate, the 100 Top companies in India employed 5 million+ employees in India, reported 400,000 plus annual volunteers and 5 million plus annual volunteering hours. At these levels, we estimate there is a 5x-10x potential to scale volunteering in corporate India,” the study by the Trust, which seed funds and advises voluntary groups, said.

The study emphasizes that volunteering may result in more engaged workers.  “Studies have shown that volunteering can improve employee well-being and skills, while corporates can also benefit from increased employee productivity, engagement, and retention,” said the report.

But just 16% of the top 100 corporations have a specific policy on volunteering. According to the research, Tata Group and Mahindra Group are two conglomerates that have set out days, weeks, or even months for corporate volunteerism.

Cisco, Salesforce, and Titan are among the firms in India with the most benevolent volunteer time-off policies, each offering 10 days.

The study discovered the disparity in volunteer hours between nations like the US and India. According to the report, just 22% of the top 100 firms in India offered paid time off for volunteering, compared to 66% of businesses in the United States.
