India bowled South Africa out for just 55 runs in the opening innings of the second Test on Wednesday in Cape Town.

Jasprit Bumrah, who chose to bat first, got off to a strong start before Mohammed Siraj entered the game and claimed six wickets.

Siraj bowled nine consecutive overs. After SA folded in the morning session, Mukesh Kumar concluded the proceedings.

Second Test

An ideal beginning for India

After SA decided to bat, India took four wickets in ten overs. Bumrah took advantage of the situation and got things started with a nasty questioning of Aiden Markram.

Siraj nailed Markram with an outside edge in the fourth over.

Then Dean Elgar sliced a ball right through his stumps. After that, Bumrah removed Tristan Stubbs, and Tony de Zorzi was out to Siraj (15/4).

David Bedingham begins the count of boundaries.

SA’s David Bedingham started the boundary count with the bat in the eleventh over. Bumrah was taken out for two fours by him. Bumrah’s overpitched ball was punished for an off-drive, and then another bad delivery was flicked for four.

An exceptionally unwelcome record for SA

In 42 home Test matches since the beginning of the 2014–15 season, it was only the fourth time that South Africa has lost both of their openers for single-digit scores in an innings, according to Cricbuzz.

Notably, India was the target of the previous three incidents as well. At the same location, SA recorded this statistic twice, in 2018 and 2022.

The other incident, meanwhile, happened in Johannesburg (2018).

During the morning session, Siraj is in charge.

Among the bowlers, Siraj was the best. He was able to determine Markram’s outer boundary. He also managed to pull off a bogus blow from Elgar.

De Zorzi’s wicket was expertly planned out. Bedingham snatched a delivery to slips after being pulled forward. And Siraj reached five after a double-wicket maiden.

Siraj took Kyle Verreynne for a scalp in his ninth over.

Siraj claims his third Test match five-wicket total.

Siraj currently has 67 scalps in 23 fights, averaging just over 28. In addition to his three five-wicket hauls, Siraj also has 4, four-fers.

Siraj has recorded his greatest numbers, taking a six-fer for the first time.

Notably, all three of his five-wicket hauls have occurred in away games (at the opponent’s home ground), according to ESPNcricinfo. Over 50 away wickets in the format have been achieved by Siraj (55).

SA scores the fewest points against India.

With 55, South Africa’s Test total against India is now their lowest. Their worst result prior to this was 79/10 at Nagpur in 2015. South Africa has been folded for less than 100 against India for the third time.

A look at the bowlers from India

Siraj’s 6/15 aside, Bumrah was excellent. He was able to score 2/25 in eight overs.

After taking a four-fer in the first match, Bumrah has quickly amassed 134 scalps.

Mukesh, another Indian bowler, took two wickets in 2.2 overs without giving up a run.

Mukesh is in his second match and has four wickets.

Conversely, in his four overs, Prasidh Krishna let up ten runs.
