It didn’t take long for people to wonder if Tesla’s self-driving cars would force workers to go to work.

On June 7, the satirical website The Babylon Bee published a spoof article imagining Musk’s email to employees in this regard.

Musk responded to the article in his trademark cheeky manner.

“My diabolical plan is coming together!” he exclaimed.

In executive circles, Musk’s return to the office has been dubbed “tone deaf.”

According to Paul McKinlay, an executive at the Irish printing company Cimpress and Vista, “what Musk fails to see or acknowledge is that working remotely has been proven to improve people’s quality of life — and teams’ productivity.”

Return-to-office mandates, according to Tony Jamous, founder of remote company Oyster, could result in organizations losing talented employees looking for work flexibility.
