BMW India has taken the wraps off the most powerful M car to be sold in the country – the new BMW M4 Competition xDrive. With an earth-shattering performance output of 510hp from its twin-turbo straight-six engine, the M4 Competition xDrive promises to unleash unbridled thrills on Indian roads. What’s more, it becomes the first ever BMW M car in India to come with the xDrive all-wheel drive system in addition to the rear-wheel drive variant. Priced at a premium of Rs 1.53 crore (ex-showroom), the new BMW M4 Competition xDrive is now open for bookings across BMW dealerships in India.

Fastest M Car Yet in India

For the uninitiated, the BMW M division is responsible for crafting the ultimate high-performance machines bearing the iconic ‘M’ badge. Since its inception in 1972, BMW M has developed a cult following worldwide for producing some of the most capable track weapons that can also be enjoyed every day. The new M4 Competition continues this legacy by pushing design and engineering boundaries to deliver an exhilarating driving experience.

Under the long sculpted hood lies a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine tuned by BMW M to unleash 510hp at 6,250rpm and 650Nm of torque between 2,750-5,500rpm. This allows the M4 Competition to sprint from 0-100kmph in just 3.5 seconds before maxing out at an electronically limited 250kmph. The eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission channels this immense power to the rear wheels as standard or can split it 50:50 between both axles with the optional xDrive all-wheel drive.

The xDrive system has been specially calibrated by BMW M engineers for optimum performance on the racetrack as well as everyday roads. In 4WD mode, it provides assured traction during acceleration while still allowing the rear-biased dynamics one expects from a true BMW M car. Switching to 2WD mode via the M Drive button locks the drivetrain into pure rear-wheel drive for maximum drift fun. An electronically controlled active M differential further enhances handling by vectoring torque between the rear wheels for improved cornering stability.

BMW has lavished the M4 Competition with aerodynamic and chassis upgrades befitting its flagship ‘M’ badge. The front end features an aggressive face with large air intakes and a carbon fiber front splitter. From the side, one notices flared wheel arches housing standard 20-inch forged alloy wheels shod in high performance rubber. A rear spoiler and carbon fiber rear diffuser aid downforce at high speeds. Lowering springs, stiffer anti-roll bars and track-tuned dampers work in tandem with standard M Carbon ceramic brakes to unleash the M4’s full dynamic potential.

The interior of the M4 Competition has also received the M treatment with bespoke elements like M sport seats, an M leather steering wheel and aluminum trim inserts. The driver-focused cockpit gets an optional head-up display to keep eyes on the road. BMW’s iDrive infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen handles connectivity and entertainment duties. Passengers can enjoy features like three-zone climate control, powered front seats and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

In typical M division fashion, the new M4 Competition is loaded to the brim with exclusive performance technologies. The M Mode button allows selecting between different powertrain, chassis and steering settings for varying driving conditions. Drivers can store personalized profiles, monitor g-forces and lap times using the M Laptimer app. Adaptive M suspension, carbon ceramic brakes and laser headlights are also on offer. With BMW offering a comprehensive aftersales package including service and maintenance programs, owners can enjoy the M4 Competition to its fullest capability.

BMW fans in India have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new M4 on local shores. With its track-ready performance, innovative all-wheel drive system and bespoke M design touches, the M4 Competition xDrive is sure to impress enthusiasts and become a coveted collectible. While its premium price tag may not make it an everyday proposition, those seeking the ultimate driving thrill will find it hard to resist the charms of BMW M’s latest halo car. With bookings now open, the race is on to be among the first owners of this 510hp super coupe on Indian roads.
