The beginning of Boom Supersonic

Blake Scholl, Joe Wilding, and Joshua Krall collaborated to create Boom Supersonic in 2014. Since his early years, when his parents took him to see turboprop Cessnas take off in the neighborhood of their Cincinnati, Ohio home, Blake Scholl has been fascinated with aeroplanes. Scholl was motivated to figure out how to permit a supersonic revival after seeing Concorde in a museum. His passion for aviation led him to obtain a private pilot’s certificate in 2008.

In 2014, along with Joe Wilding and Joshua Krall, he co-founded Boom Supersonic after serving as a Senior Director at Groupon for two years. After conducting extensive research over several weeks, he came to the conclusion that supersonic travel was feasible and employed aerospace experts to make his dream a reality.

Japan Airlines and Boom Supersonic worked together to purchase 20 aircraft in 2017. In October 2020, the XB-1 demonstrator aircraft was formally unveiled to the public. The corporation stated its goal to test the Overture in flight in 2026 in 2021. Boom Supersonic said in 2022 that it would establish its first supersonic airplane manufacturing facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, after securing a commercial agreement with United Airlines by the end of 2021.

Boom Supersonic and American Airlines announced a business deal in August 2022 to purchase 20 Overture aircraft, with the option to purchase a further 40. It revealed Symphony, a new Overture propulsion engine, in December 2022. The corporation began erecting an Overture Superfactory near Greensboro, North Carolina, the following year, in January 2023.
