According to NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah, the size of the Indian dairy industry is expected to more than double to Rs 30 lakh crore by 2027, driven by growth in both volume and value terms.

He also claimed that the government is not “insensitive” and that it will preserve the interests of 8 million dairy producers while establishing free trade agreements (FTAs) with other nations.

Shah said the size of Indian dairy market remained at Rs 13 trillion in 2021 and it is predicted to reach Rs 30 trillion by 2027.

He noted that the rise in production of milk and other dairy products, as well as value appreciation, will drive the expansion.

Shah, the chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), was speaking during a news conference at the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022, which is being held at the India Expo Centre and Mart from September 12 to 15.

When questioned about the implications of prospective FTAs with numerous nations, including the UK, on the dairy sector, Shah stated that the dairy sector employs around 8 crore farmers.

He stressed that the administration is not “insensitive” and would not make any decisions that will harm Indian dairy producers.

When asked about the effects of Lumpy Skin Condition (LSD), which has spread to at least ten states/union territories, Shah stated that the goat pox vaccine is 100% effective and has helped control the disease in Gujarat.
