Bitcoin price today

Bitcoin edged higher on Wednesday but remained stuck just below a level traders have been watching closely, as stronger technology earnings helped improve risk appetite across Asian markets.

The Bitcoin price rose about 1.3% to just above $82,700 during Asian trading, keeping it around the $83,000 mark after a difficult stretch for cryptocurrencies.

The wider crypto market followed higher, but Zcash stood out. ZEC jumped about 11% to roughly $1,260 after developers fixed the activation height for the network’s next major upgrade.

The result was a mixed but noticeably better morning for digital assets: Bitcoin stabilised, altcoins recovered and technology stocks once again provided the broader market with some optimism.

Bitcoin Is Still Struggling With $84,000

A move from $82,000 to $83,000 is useful for traders, but it does not yet represent a decisive breakout.

Analysts at Hashdex see $84,000 as a more important near-term level.

Bitcoin briefly traded above that area earlier this month before losing momentum during a wider selloff across Asian equities and digital assets.

The cryptocurrency now needs to reclaim the level convincingly if bulls want to argue that the latest rebound is more than another temporary bounce.

That makes Bitcoin at $83,000 something of a holding pattern.

It is no longer sliding aggressively, but buyers have not yet regained full control either.

Strong Tech Earnings Improved Risk Appetite

The latest support came partly from outside crypto.

Strong corporate results revived enthusiasm around artificial intelligence and pushed several technology stocks higher.

Super Micro Computer surged in extended trading, while SpaceX-related earnings news also helped lift sentiment around the broader AI infrastructure trade.

That enthusiasm spread into Asia.

South Korea’s Kospi gained about 3.7%, while Taiwan’s Taiex rose roughly 1.4%.

Nasdaq 100 futures were also higher.

Crypto often trades as a high-risk technology asset during periods like this.

When investors become more willing to buy AI, semiconductor and growth stocks, Bitcoin and crypto markets can benefit from the same improvement in risk appetite.

Zcash Had Its Own Reason to Rally

ZEC’s move was not simply a side effect of the broader market.

Zcash developers have set the activation height for NU7, the network’s next major upgrade.

An activation height is the specific block number at which all participating nodes begin following the new network rules.

NU7 is expected to reduce Zcash’s block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.

That would allow payments to confirm roughly three times faster.

The upgrade also changes how network fees are handled, directing 60% of transaction fees into a reserve that will be distributed over time.

Those changes were enough to send the Zcash price up about 11% to around $1,260.

NU7 Has Already Been Running on Testnet

The planned changes have not appeared out of nowhere.

NU7 has been operating on Zcash’s test network since early October, giving developers time to test the upgrade before switching the main network.

Reducing block times is particularly relevant for payments.

A privacy-focused cryptocurrency may offer strong technical features, but users can still become frustrated if transactions take too long to confirm.

Moving from 75 seconds to 25 seconds does not make Zcash instantaneous.

It does, however, make everyday transactions considerably faster.

The strong ZEC rally suggests traders see the upgrade as a meaningful improvement rather than a routine technical maintenance event.

Other Major Tokens Moved Higher Too

Zcash was the standout, but most large cryptocurrencies were positive.

HYPE and Dogecoin gained more than 3%.

XRP rose close to 3% to roughly $1.33.

Ether climbed around 2% to about $2,450.

BNB and Solana gained between 1% and 2%, while TRX was approximately flat.

That relatively broad advance matters because Bitcoin rallies can sometimes occur while the rest of the market remains weak.

Wednesday looked different.

Improved sentiment reached several major tokens, suggesting the rebound was not being driven solely by one large Bitcoin trade.

Oil Is Still a Complication

Not every macro signal was supportive.

Brent crude moved above $110 a barrel as shipping disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz raised concerns about supply.

US industry data also pointed towards another decline in crude inventories.

Higher oil can create problems for risk assets because sustained energy inflation may keep central banks cautious about lowering interest rates.

The dollar firmed slightly as well.

Treasury bonds gave back some of their earlier gains.

That leaves crypto market sentiment caught between better technology earnings and a macro backdrop that is still far from comfortable.

Bitcoin’s Bear Phase Is Getting Old

Hashdex believes there is another reason to watch Bitcoin closely.

The firm noted that the cryptocurrency’s current bear phase had lasted 359 days as of September 30.

Previous bear periods since 2011 lasted 361, 377 and 411 days.

History does not guarantee the current cycle will follow the same pattern.

Still, the comparison suggests the downturn is approaching the duration of several earlier Bitcoin bear markets.

That has encouraged some investors to ask whether the worst of the decline may be getting closer to its end.

The answer remains uncertain.

Duration alone does not cause a market to reverse.

The Fed Meeting Is the Next Big Test

The Federal Reserve meets on October 27 and 28.

That gives Bitcoin less than a week before another major macro event.

Interest-rate expectations matter heavily for cryptocurrency prices.

Higher rates make safer interest-bearing assets more attractive and can reduce demand for speculative investments.

Any indication that monetary policy will remain tight for longer could therefore put renewed pressure on Bitcoin.

A more favourable rate outlook would give risk assets more room.

Hashdex believes Bitcoin needs to reclaim $84,000 before that meeting to show stronger momentum heading into the event.

Bitcoin Has Stabilised, Not Broken Out

Wednesday’s market is better than the one crypto traders were looking at only a few sessions ago.

Technology stocks are stronger. Major cryptocurrencies are mostly higher. Zcash has a specific upgrade catalyst, and Bitcoin is holding around $83,000 rather than falling back towards recent lows.

That still leaves the market in an awkward middle ground.

Bitcoin has not reclaimed $84,000. Oil is above $110. The Federal Reserve meeting is approaching, and the broader macro environment remains volatile.

The Bitcoin price near $83,000 therefore looks more like stabilisation than a confirmed new uptrend.

Zcash has the clearer short-term story because NU7 gives traders a tangible network event to price in.

Bitcoin has a tougher task.

It needs buyers to push through resistance before the next Fed decision puts global risk appetite to another test.
