q2 results today

India’s September-quarter earnings season gets considerably busier on Thursday, with 49 companies scheduled to report their Q2 FY27 numbers.

The list includes Wipro, Nestle India, Jio Financial Services, HDFC Asset Management Company, HDFC Life, Indian Bank, Tech Mahindra, Polycab India, Persistent Systems and Tata Communications.

That makes Q2 results today important for more than one sector. Investors will get fresh numbers from information technology, financial services, consumer goods, banking and telecom-related businesses, all on the same day.

Wipro and Nestle India are likely to attract the most attention because their earnings will answer two very different questions: whether IT demand is improving fast enough, and whether consumer companies can keep growing without giving up too much margin.

Wipro Is Expected to Report a Subdued Quarter

Wipro enters the results day with fairly modest expectations.

Brokerages expect revenue to grow around 8% from a year earlier, but sequential growth is likely to remain weak.

Axis Direct estimates revenue at ₹24,601 crore, up 8.4% year on year, while net profit is expected to rise 2.6% from the previous quarter to around ₹3,445 crore.

PL Capital has a slightly higher revenue estimate of ₹24,910 crore.

The more telling number may be constant-currency growth in the IT services business.

Analysts expect that figure to decline around 0.5% sequentially.

That would fit the broader story playing out across Indian IT: annual revenue still looks respectable, but quarter-to-quarter growth remains fairly slow.

Margins Could Improve Even If Revenue Does Not

One area where Wipro Q2 results may look better is profitability.

Brokerages expect EBIT margin to improve to around 16.4%.

Several factors could help.

The rupee has weakened, which can support the reported profitability of Indian IT exporters earning much of their revenue in dollars. Wipro is also expected to benefit from internal cost efficiencies and the absence of a major wage-hike impact during the quarter.

There are offsets.

New deal ramp-ups require spending, while investment in artificial intelligence and acquisitions can prevent every efficiency gain from turning into margin improvement.

That makes the margin number useful, but management’s commentary will probably matter more.

Investors will want to know whether Wipro believes demand is improving enough to support a stronger December quarter.

Q3 Guidance Could Matter More Than Q2 Revenue

Wipro’s guidance has become one of the most closely watched parts of its quarterly announcement.

The company had earlier guided for IT services revenue growth between a 1.5% decline and a 0.5% increase for the September quarter.

For Q3, analysts expect another cautious range.

Some brokerage estimates point to a possible decline of as much as 2%, with the upper end close to flat.

If management gives a stronger outlook than that, investors may read it as evidence that deal ramp-ups and discretionary technology spending are finally gaining momentum.

If guidance remains weak, the market could conclude that recent optimism around Indian IT stocks has moved faster than underlying revenue growth.

Nestle India Has a Very Different Setup

Nestle India’s quarter 2 results is expected to look much stronger on the top line.

Brokerages are forecasting revenue growth of around 20-21% year on year.

Axis Direct estimates revenue at ₹6,765 crore, up 20.1%, while HDFC Securities sees it at around ₹6,809 crore.

Motilal Oswal is in a similar range at roughly ₹6,805 crore.

Those numbers would make Nestle one of the faster-growing large FMCG companies this quarter.

Volume growth is also expected to remain healthy, supported by consumption demand, premium products and selective price increases.

That combination is important because consumer companies generally prefer growth coming from both higher volumes and better pricing rather than depending heavily on one.

Lower Coffee Prices Could Help Nestle’s Margins

Costs are another reason analysts expect Nestle India Q2 results to be strong.

Lower coffee prices and an improved product mix should support margins.

Axis Direct expects EBITDA to rise about 29% to ₹1,595 crore.

HDFC Securities is slightly higher at ₹1,608 crore, representing growth of about 30%.

Both see EBITDA margin around 23.6-23.7%.

Motilal Oswal expects adjusted net profit to rise around 38% to ₹1,026.7 crore.

If those estimates are close to the actual numbers, Nestle would be delivering the kind of combination investors usually want from an FMCG company: double-digit revenue growth, healthy volumes and faster profit growth.

The question is whether management sees that momentum continuing.

Jio Financial and HDFC Names Add a Financial-Sector Focus

Technology and consumer goods will not be the only areas in focus.

Jio Financial Services is also scheduled to report.

Investors will be watching for progress across lending, payments, asset management and the wider financial-services ecosystem the company has been building.

HDFC Asset Management Company and HDFC Life are also due to announce earnings.

For HDFC AMC, asset growth, mutual fund flows and fee yields will matter.

For HDFC Life, investors will focus more on new business premiums, margins and the value of new business.

Indian Bank, South Indian Bank and UCO Bank add traditional banking exposure to Thursday’s Q2 earnings calendar.

For them, credit growth, deposit costs and asset quality remain the key numbers.

Tech Mahindra and Persistent Add More IT Earnings

Wipro is not the only technology company reporting.

Tech Mahindra, Persistent Systems and Tata Communications are also on the list.

That gives investors a useful comparison across different parts of the technology sector.

Wipro represents the large traditional IT-services model.

Persistent is more exposed to digital engineering and software-led transformation work, while Tata Communications gives investors a look at enterprise connectivity and digital infrastructure.

Together, those earnings can provide a broader picture of whether corporate technology spending is becoming healthier or remains concentrated around specific areas such as AI, cloud and cybersecurity.

Markets Have Already Turned Positive Ahead of Earnings

Indian equities were higher in early trade on Thursday despite weak global cues.

The Sensex and Nifty gained as IT and banking stocks advanced, even after US inflation data put pressure on overseas markets.

That creates an interesting backdrop for Q2 FY27 results.

Part of Thursday’s optimism is already reflected in share prices.

Wipro and other IT stocks have moved higher ahead of earnings, which means expectations are not especially low anymore.

Companies may therefore need more than a result that simply matches estimates.

Guidance, deal commentary and margins could determine whether the market holds onto the morning gains.
