Krafton India is preparing to launch BGMI Lite, a light version of Battlegrounds Mobile India, for gamers with budget and older smartphones. The game is scheduled to launch here by the end of 2026; however, the company has not announced a release date.
The planned release would expand the reach of Battlegrounds Mobile India beyond users with mid-range and premium devices. The standard version requires relatively capable hardware to maintain stable frame rates, particularly after downloading additional maps, graphics packages and seasonal content.
BGMI Lite is expected to lower those hardware demands while retaining the core battle royale format. Krafton has not disclosed the game’s download size, supported operating systems, minimum RAM requirement or gameplay modes.
Exact Release Date Not Announced
Krafton has confirmed that a lighter version of BGMI is being prepared for India, but the launch schedule remains broad. Reports point to a possible release before the end of 2026, subject to development, testing and final rollout plans.
The company is yet to announce whether the game will first be released through a limited beta or made available directly to all eligible users. There is also no confirmation on whether Android and iOS versions will arrive together.
Several important details remain undisclosed:
- The official launch date
- Minimum and recommended device requirements
- Download and installation size
- Number of players supported in each match
- Available maps and gameplay modes
- Graphics and frame-rate settings
- Account, inventory and progression support
- Beta testing and pre-registration dates
Until Krafton releases these details, claims about exact specifications or download links remain unconfirmed.
Focus on Budget and Older Smartphones
The main BGMI game is available for smartphones with at least 2GB of RAM, but performance can vary depending on the processor, storage availability and graphics settings. New updates have also added maps, character assets, collaborations and other downloadable resources that increase the game’s overall storage requirement.
BGMI Lite is being positioned for devices that cannot run the full version consistently. The lighter game is expected to reduce pressure on storage, memory and processing power.
Krafton has not said how it plans to achieve this. A smaller installation package, lower-resolution assets and reduced graphical effects are possible, but none of these features has been formally detailed.
The company has also not confirmed whether BGMI Lite will operate as a separate application. If released separately, questions will remain over account access, player progression, purchased items and compatibility with the standard BGMI version.
PUBG Mobile Lite Offers Earlier Reference Point
Krafton previously used a similar approach with PUBG Mobile Lite, which was introduced in India in July 2019. That game was built for entry-level Android smartphones and had an initial download size of roughly 400MB.
PUBG Mobile Lite supported devices with less than 2GB of RAM. It used smaller maps, accommodated 60 players instead of the standard game’s 100-player format and offered matches lasting about 10 minutes.
The lighter version was developed using Unreal Engine 4 and retained the basic battle royale format while reducing the hardware required to run it. It became the top-ranked free game on Google Play in India following its release.
Those specifications do not confirm what Krafton will offer with BGMI Lite. The company has not said whether the new title will use the same player count, match duration, map structure or technical framework.
BGMI Remains Krafton’s Main India Title
BGMI was launched in India in July 2021 after PUBG Mobile was blocked in the country in 2020. Krafton developed the title specifically for the Indian market and introduced local data, safety and gameplay measures.
The game crossed 100 million registered users within about a year of its launch. Krafton has since said that BGMI has built a registered user base of more than 240 million in India.
The company has continued to support the title through regular content updates, esports tournaments, creator partnerships and brand collaborations. Its competitive gaming programme includes the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series and the Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series.
A Lite version would give Krafton another route to reach mobile gamers outside BGMI’s current hardware base. It could be particularly relevant for users who face lag, overheating, storage shortages or unstable frame rates while running the standard game.
Players Should Wait for Official Availability
There is currently no verified BGMI Lite application available for public download. Krafton has not released an official installation file, beta link or pre-registration page.
Players should avoid unofficial APK files carrying the BGMI Lite name. These files are not checked by Krafton and may be dangerous to devices or gaming accounts. The authorised version, once released, is expected to be distributed through official app stores and Krafton’s recognised channels.
For now, the confirmed development is limited to Krafton’s plan to bring a lighter BGMI experience to India. The precise release date, technical specifications and gameplay format are still awaited.
