Last year, up to 1 million women applied for jobs on delivery service platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy.

Women have opened the door to economic freedom and self-sufficiency by taking advantage of opportunities and choosing careers that have hitherto been dominated by men.

According to the report, participation in the gig economy by women in second-tier cities has skyrocketed. Apna, a career and professional networking platform, found a 34% increase in the number of women in delivery jobs, drivers, factory workers, and lab technicians.

The platform also highlighted that applications for part-time jobs for women increased by 67%, while full-time jobs increased by 34%.

More women applied for night shifts, the job platform added. “There has also been an increase in the number of women applying for night shifts, to the tune of a whopping 60%,” the report stated.

In 2022, Apna witnessed more than 3.1 billion professional conversations among women in Tier 1, Tier 2 and other cities, with total female users on the platform up 36% year over year.

In addition, an analysis of the platform’s data revealed that companies such as Paytm, Zomato, Rapido, and Swiggy Food Delivery are the top companies posting the largest number of jobs for women to diversify their careers.

According to Apna Application, Rapido currently has a workforce of 43,236 women, Zomato has 29,623 women and Swiggy has 23,120 women. Women in Tier 2 cities are passionately involved in the workforce. Cities like Chandigarh and Lucknow topped the list for most job applications from women in Tier 2 cities, with year-on-year increases of 71% and 55%, respectively, in 2022.

The report added that most female job applications were received in categories such as phone calls, BPO and back office. By 2022, women in Tier 2 cities and beyond have joined the professional conversation on an approximately $1 billion platform.
