Veda VC, an early-stage venture capital fund

Veda VC, an early-stage venture capital fund, has successfully secured the initial tranche of its Rs 250 crore fund, with significant participation from prominent family offices and CXOs of startups. The fund primarily concentrates on seeding investments, catering to companies in their inception to pre-Series A phases.

Operating under the registration of a Category 1 AIF by SEBI, Veda VC intends to allocate funds ranging from $250,000 to $1.25 million across a diverse range of technology-driven enterprises in India. These sectors encompass consumer internet, software as a service (SaaS), financial technology (fintech), and deep tech.

Founded in 2019, Veda VC emerged from the collaborative efforts of seasoned startup founders and operators. The core team comprises Vasant Rao and Ashis Nayak (formerly of Autoninja), Avijeet Alagathi (from BYG), and Venus Dhuria (of Appyhigh).

The fund’s operational scope is broad, including targeted investments in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), computer vision, and space tech. Veda VC’s unique identity rests on being an Operator VC, a venture capital fund pioneered by individuals with prior entrepreneurial experience. This distinct approach involves active involvement in various operational facets, ranging from devising go-to-market strategies to facilitating recruitment and marketing endeavors.

Vasant Rao, Founder, and Managing Partner of Veda VC, emphasized the fund’s evolution, stating, “In 2019, we convened as a collective of founders united by the goal of guiding fellow entrepreneurs during their initial stages. Over time, Veda has emerged as one of the most dynamic seed investors, channeling approximately $10 million annually across a diverse array of startup ventures.”

Veda VC’s core mission is to forge partnerships early on in a startup’s inception. Beyond capital infusion, the team brings to the table domain expertise, a well-established ecosystem network, robust execution capabilities, and meticulous craftsmanship. These elements synergize to facilitate portfolio companies in achieving product-market fit, expediting growth, and securing subsequent rounds of funding.

Veda VC’s influence is evidenced by its involvement in 46 startup ventures thus far. A substantial proportion of these startups, more than half, have proceeded to secure subsequent investments from distinguished investors such as Sequoia, Accel, Kalaari Capital, Mayfair, and 3one4 Capital, among others. The fund’s illustrious portfolio encompasses notable names like Dukaan, Elo Elo, One Impression, Even Health, Rigi, and Agnikul, among a host of others.
