Online and digital payments have become more prevalent over the last few years. Digital payments are increasingly accepted by even taxi drivers and paan stores.

GooglePay, PayTm, AmazonPay, and other well-known international firms are present on the market. With these worldwide players, the Indian company Mobikwik holds a prominent position.

The fact that an Indian woman is its co-founder only serves to increase this pride. Meet the woman behind Mobikwik, Upasana Taku.

Mobikwik

By choosing her profession, Upasana Taku disproved numerous myths and stereotypes. Upasana was born in Surat, away from home. She traveled great distances to study engineering at Jalandhar, Punjab. While other females her age were busy pursuing additional courses that catered to women, Upasana chose to major in industrial engineering, a technical subject that was predominately male.

Tenacity is crucial, she once remarked. The environment does not readily embrace you when you start anything new; people reject you. We took 10 months to convince the first bank to accept wallet loading, but it only took 15 days to convince the second. In 2014, it took us 3–4 months to acquire our first few top merchants. We closed huge retailers like Domino’s and eBay in a matter of three to four months. All because I clung to you tightly.

Upasana and Bipin were so committed to their startup that they even took breaks on the day of their wedding!

Their diligence paid off! Mobikwik is currently one of India’s top fintech companies! There are numerous female executives in both finance and technology nowadays.
