Is capable of handling conversations, in Hindi, English, and a mix of both known as ‘Hinglish’. With real-time call insights and quick responses, users can enjoy enhanced control and convenience. Initially available, on Android, it will soon expand to iOS ensuring compliance with regulations.

Truecaller introduces an AI-enabled

Truecaller, the caller identity application, has introduced an innovative feature named Truecaller Assistant, driven by artificial intelligence. This advanced capability enables the assistant to handle incoming calls on the user’s behalf. As part of its comprehensive suite of offerings, Truecaller is now equipped with this interactive virtual assistant, hosted on the cloud platform.

Presently, the Truecaller Assistant is proficient in engaging conversations in Hindi, English, and the unique Indianized blend known as ‘Hinglish’. Rishit Jhunjhunwala, the Managing Director of Truecaller India, shared that the concept is akin to an evolved answering machine tailored for smartphones. Users are required to configure the assistant and activate call forwarding. While the assistant manages incoming calls, the user gains access to real-time transcripts within the app.

This ingenious solution originated as “Call Hero,” a venture subsequently acquired by Truecaller and seamlessly integrated into its framework. The rebranded “Truecaller Assistant” was initially introduced in the United States, where its predecessor, Call Hero, had already established a presence. Since then, the feature has been launched in diverse global markets.

Jhunjhunwala further emphasized that while Truecaller successfully identifies spam calls, users sometimes still contend with the annoyance of answering them. The Truecaller Assistant aims to alleviate this predicament by taking on the responsibility of responding to suspicious calls. To provide users with the utmost control, the feature empowers them to intervene and personally attend the call if it proves to be important.

This virtual assistant is currently accessible on Android devices within India and is poised to expand to the iOS ecosystem in the near future. Additionally, more languages will be incorporated into the feature’s repertoire.

Despite Truecaller’s collaborative efforts with Indian telecommunications companies for various caller identity and verification solutions, the Truecaller Assistant operates entirely within the cloud environment. This unique approach negates the need for direct involvement with Indian telcos. Nonetheless, the cloud infrastructure adheres to localized regulations, differing from market to market, as clarified by Jhunjhunwala.

India stands as Truecaller’s largest market, boasting an impressive 255.4 million monthly active users in the April-June quarter out of the global user base of 355.6 million. This dominance in India translates into significant financial contributions, with the nation accounting for 79.6% of the global revenue.

In terms of revenue streams within India, Truecaller thrives through advertising within the app, premium subscriptions, and its enterprise arm, known as “Truecaller for Business.”
