In a surprising turn of events, Mark Zuckerberg, the chief of Meta, unveiled Threads, a novel social media platform that instantly emerged as a fierce competitor to Elon Musk’s Twitter. Astonishingly, within a mere seven hours of its launch, Threads garnered a staggering 10 million sign-ups across 100 countries, indicating an unprecedented level of interest.

Zuckerberg himself, in his inaugural post on the app, exclaimed, “Let’s do this. Welcome to Threads,” accompanied by a fervent fire emoji.

Demonstrating a touch of playful rivalry, he also took to Twitter, playfully sharing a popular meme featuring two iterations of Spiderman in an amusing nod to the intense competition between the two services.

The rapid adoption of this new Meta platform extended to renowned celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, as well as prominent politicians such as Democratic US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This surge in high-profile users further solidifies Threads’ potential as a major player in the social media landscape.

Notably, although Threads functions as a standalone app, it offers the convenience of logging in using existing Instagram credentials, allowing for seamless integration of habits for Instagram’s colossal user base, which currently exceeds 2 billion monthly active users.

Meta’s official statement regarding the platform’s launch expressed a clear vision for Threads: to build upon Instagram’s strengths and expand its capabilities to encompass text-based communication, thereby fostering a positive and creative environment for expressing ideas.
