Shakti Pumps has landed another contract. The Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency awarded the company a Rs 23.98 crore order to supply and install 1,200 solar water pumping systems across the state. This is the second time Jharkhand has given business to Shakti Pumps, which suggests the state is satisfied with how the company delivers.
The order is part of the PM-KUSUM scheme, a government programme that helps farmers switch to solar power for irrigation. Instead of relying on expensive diesel pumps or grid electricity, farmers get solar systems that cut their costs dramatically. For Shakti Pumps, these orders keep coming because the company has built a reputation for getting the job done on time.
What the Order Includes
Shakti Pumps will supply 1,200 solar water pumping units to various locations across Jharkhand. The company will handle installation as well, not just delivery. Typically, Shakti Pumps finishes installations like this within 60 days once they get the official go-ahead. That speed matters to state governments that are trying to hit targets and get farmers equipped quickly.
The Jharkhand contract is smaller than some recent orders the company has won, but it’s meaningful business. Jharkhand is an agricultural state where water scarcity affects farming productivity. Solar pumps solve that problem without creating new dependency on power grids or fuel costs.
Company Is on a Roll
This order comes right after Shakti Pumps won something much bigger. Just last week, Maharashtra’s electricity board gave the company 16,025 solar pump systems worth Rs 443.78 crore. When that announcement came out, Shakti Pumps’ stock jumped 13 percent. Investors can see the company is winning business across multiple states.
Right now, Shakti Pumps has orders worth about Rs 13,000 crore lined up. That’s a massive order book that will keep the company busy for years. Maharashtra is the biggest source of orders, but business is also coming from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and now again from Jharkhand. That variety matters because it means the company isn’t dependent on one state.
Can They Actually Deliver
The real question is whether Shakti Pumps can actually manufacture and install all these pumps. The company has a factory in Pithampur that can make 500,000 pumps and motors annually. That sounds like a lot, but with Rs 13,000 crore in orders, they’re going to be stretched.
The company knows this. They’re building new manufacturing capacity. By next June, they want to double their production capacity to 10 lakh units per year. They’re also starting a completely new factory to make solar panels and cells, with capacity for 2.2 gigawatts.
In the first half of this financial year, Shakti Pumps installed about 40,000 solar pump units. That’s up 19 percent from the same period last year. Heavy monsoons made things harder, but the company still grew. That shows they can handle increased volume.
Why This Matters
For farmers in Jharkhand, these 1,200 solar pumps mean lower electricity bills and more reliable water access. For the state government, it means hitting its renewable energy targets. For Shakti Pumps, it means another contract that validates what they do.
The PM-KUSUM programme is only going to get bigger. States are competing to install more solar pumps. For Shakti Pumps, that’s good business. The company has 10 years of experience in this market and knows how to execute in India’s agricultural regions, where road access can be difficult and installation timelines are tight.
This Jharkhand order won’t make headlines like the massive Maharashtra contract, but it’s steady business that shows the company is becoming the go-to supplier for solar pump systems across India’s farm belt.
