Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reclaimed the top spot in the bowlers’ rankings after taking nine wickets in his 100th Test match.

ICC Test Rankings: Off-spinner R Ashwin, who took 26 wickets in the recently finished 5-match series against England, recovered the top rank in the bowling ratings, knocking Jasprit Bumrah to second place. Kuldeep Yadav moved up 15 spots following his exploits against England.

A nine-wicket haul in his 100th Test match helped Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reclaim the top spot in the bowlers’ list, while his captain Rohit Sharma returned to the top ten at sixth in the current ICC batting rankings on Wednesday. Ashwin was at his best in the Dharamsala Test against England, taking four wickets in the first innings and a 36th five-wicket haul in the second innings as India cruised to a comfortable victory in the fifth and final Test of the series.

Ravichandran Ashwin, an off-spinner, supplanted Jasprit Bumrah as the top bowler in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test rankings. Ashwin recaptured the top spot, which he had held since January 2024, when the rankings were updated on the Wednesday, March 13.

The enormous haul helped Ashwin go past teammate Jasprit Bumrah into the premier position, which he had held earlier this year, according to an ICC statement.

Rohit, who scored a century in Dharmsala, moved up five places to sixth place, just 108 rating points behind No. 1 Test batter Kane Williamson.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (up two places to seventh) and Shubman Gill (up 11 ranks to equal 20th) set new career highs after strong individual performances against the Ben Stokes’ team.

Bumrah now shares the second place with Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood after taking six wickets in the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.

Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin’s colleague, earned a new career high rating and vaulted 15 places to 16th overall in the current rankings after taking seven wickets and winning Player of the Match against England.

Matt Henry of New Zealand moved up six ranks to 12th, setting a career high.

In the revised ranking of Test all-rounders, India spinner Ravindra Jadeja remained well ahead of second-placed Ashwin, with Australia skipper Pat Cummins (up two places to eighth) and Henry (up six slots to eleventh) among the significant movers.
