Government on Friday accepted the resignation of Rajeev Kumar and appointed Economist Suman K. Bery as the new vice-chairman w.e.f. 1st may 2022.

According to official notification of the “Ministry of Personnel”, government has accepted resignation of Dr. Rajeev Kumar, relieving him from the post of Vice-chairman of NITI Aayog w.e.f 30th may 2022. The resignation of Dr. Rajeev Kumar marks the end of his 5-year Vice-chairmanship of the think-tank that he took from his predecessor Dr. Arvind Pangariya back in August 2017, when Dr. Arvind moved back to Columbia University for teaching.

Rajiv Kumar currently serves as the Chancellor of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. He was an Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance during the reform years of 1991-1994. He also served as an independent director on the Central Boards of the Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of India. He was also Chief Economist of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) during 2004-2006.

Newly appointed Vice-Chairman Dr. Suman K. Berry Bery is a former DG of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), a position he held for a decade from 2001 to 2011; former Indian country director of International Growth Centre, and current non-resident fellow at Brussels-based think tank devoted to policy research and economic issues, Bruegel. He was also a member of the Raghu ram Rajan Committee on Financial Sector Reforms, constituted in 2007 by the Government of India for proposing financial reforms within the country.
