Mukesh Ambani is placed second on a list of top CEOs dominated by CEOs of Indian heritage. Leena Nair, the CEO of the luxury fashion house Chanel, is the highest-ranking female CEO. Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Punit Renjen, Shantanu Narayen, N Chandrasekaran, and Piyush Gupta are among the Top 10 in Brand Finance’s ‘Top 100 Brand Guardians 2023’ list.

According to the report, Ambani continues to manage Reliance’s move to green energy as well as the diversification of its telecoms and retail operations. Half of the top ten CEOs or equivalents are from the technology and media sectors, down from 9 out of 10 in 2022. The most popular backgrounds for those in the ranking are engineering and finance.

Brand Finance has ranked Leena Nair, the highest-ranking female CEO, 11th. She is one of only seven female CEOs included in the top 100. According to the survey, the number of female CEOs is expected to rise in the future years.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, who stepped down on Thursday night, is ranked 17th. Anand Mahindra is ranked 23rd, while Sunil Mittal of Airtel is placed 26th. Dinesh Kumar Khara, the CEO of State Bank of India, was placed 48th.

“This year has witnessed a shift in the main drivers of brand guardian reputation due to the uncertain global financial situation, with ‘Commercial Leadership’ and ‘Inspiring Positive Change’ now the two most important drivers of reputation,” said Annie Brown, General Manager UK Consulting at Brand Finance. This demonstrates the importance of brand guardians remaining focused on commercial success amid difficult operating situations.”

According to the survey, highly compensated brand guardians are held accountable for their commercial and organizational leadership and are expected to successfully manage the demands and expectations of all stakeholders. The United States has the most CEOs in the top 100, followed by China. According to the report, Indian CEOs also did well.
