On Friday, Maruti Suzuki India announced that the Multi-purpose Vehicle (MPV) Ertiga has sold over 10 lakh units.

As a stylish and technologically advanced offering, the Ertiga has redefined the concept of an MPV,” said Shashank Srivastava, senior executive officer, of marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki India.

He continued, “The model has an amazing 37.5% segment market share and is well-liked in both rural and urban markets across the nation.

The car manufacturer exports the model to more than 80 nations in addition to the home market.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is an Indian automaker that produces, markets and purchases automobiles and replacement components. MSIL is a division of Suzuki Motor Corporation, a Japanese automaker. 

Maruti Udyog Limited was the name of MSIL till 2007. It was founded in 1981. Its headquarters are in New Delhi, India, and it has 3,598 retail locations in 1,861 Indian cities. 

The largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, MSIL is recognized for having spearheaded the nation’s automotive renaissance. MSIL produces and markets automobiles, parts, and accessories in three divisions: vans, passenger cars, and utility vehicles. Additionally, MSIL makes fleet management, finance, and used car sales easier. 

Calendar year (CY) 2023 saw the Indian automobile industry continue its impressive run, with its highest-ever annual domestic volume of 4,108,000 units, surpassing the previous mark of 3,792,000 units attained in 2022.

Maruti Suzuki India, is the biggest automobile manufacturer in the nation, with seven models in the top ten best-selling vehicles in 2023. Tata Motors offered two versions, but Hyundai Motor India only offered one.

The top ten best-selling vehicles in India in 2023 included one MPV, one van, three hatchbacks, four SUVs, and one sedan.

With 203,469 units sold, the Maruti Suzuki Swift was the best-selling vehicle of the year once more. At 201,302 units, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR came in second. In 2023, only these two vehicles sold over 200,000 units.

With 193,988 sales, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno emerged as the most popular premium hatchback in 2023.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon were in fierce competition for the lead in the SUV sector. With sales of 170,588 units versus 170,311 units, the former was slightly ahead of the latter.

With a respectable volume of 157,522 units, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to fly high in the sedan class. The mid-size SUV market leader, the Hyundai Creta, came in second with 157,311 units.

150,182 copies of the domestic car major’s entry-level SUV, the Tata Punch, were sold in 2023, demonstrating a very strong performance.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, with 129,967 units, and the Maruti Suzuki Eeco, with 136,010 units, were the van and MPV segments’ respective top ten sellers in India in 2023.
