On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee virtually inaugurated Shyam Steel’s Rs 1,500-crore integrated facility in Purulia District.

This is the company’s fourth plant in the state, following three in Durgapur and Bankura.

The new steel facility in Raghunathpur would cover 600 acres and have a capacity of 1.19 million tonnes, according to Shyam Steel director Lalit Beriwala.

The increase would result in a combined capacity of 4.03 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), including 1.36 MTPA of finished steel, he added.

Shyam Steel, which has a current turnover of Rs 6,000 crore, intends to strengthen its position in the steel business, according to an official.

The group expected to generate Rs 9,000-10,000 crore in revenue over the next 2-3 years as a result of the government’s infrastructure drive.

The new steel factory would allow the firm to create high-quality steel products to meet the rising demand in local and international markets, he added.

The Kolkata-Siliguri Highway is being developed in West Bengal. The central government plans to invest Rs 25,000 crore to finish the project.

Instead of the unusual 560 kilometers of the current route, the four-lane highway corridor will be 675 kilometers long. 

Currently, the travel from Kolkata to Siliguri takes between 15 and 18 hours; in exceptional cases, the distance is much longer. The planned highway will reduce the time required to drive from Siliguri to Kolkata by half, to around 7 hours.

Tajpur will become West Bengal’s first deep-sea port. (Eastern Midnapore District).

For 25,000 individuals, the initiative will create new work opportunities. According to the minister’s announcement, a total investment of Rs 15,000 crore is suggested for the port’s expansion and development.

In addition, the government plans to invest Rs 10,000 crore in port infrastructure development. It will get a total investment of Rs 25,000 crore.

The Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway would shorten travel time between the two cities by half once completed. Currently, it takes 14 hours to go this distance, but with the new highway, it will be finished in 7 hours.

It would cost Rs 28,500 crore to construct this 10-kilometer highway. The majority of the 242 km long eight-lane highway will be built in West Bengal. Its preparation will help Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
