Shaadi.com, Makaan.com, and Mauj Mobile are some of the most well-known projects launched by the firm, which has been recognized as one of the most inventive enterprises in the country.

Anupam is also a successful Angel Investor, a Founding Member and Past Chairman of the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), and the Founding Co-chair of H2 India, in addition to his operational job at People Group.

Anupam, who earned his MBA in Operations and Strategic Management from Boston College in the United States, is married to model Aanchal Kumar and lives in Mumbai. Professionally, Aanchal is a model turned actress who is well-known in the modeling community and has won numerous modeling accolades. She has also acted in cameo roles in films such as Bluffmaster and Fashion, as well as the fourth season of the reality show Bigg Boss.

How did he get his start in the business?

Anupam Mittal was born on the 23rd of December 1971 to a marwadi family, Mr. Gopal Krishna Mittal and Mrs. Bhagawatidevi Gopal Krishna Mittal.

Following finishing his education, Anupam came to the United States in the mid-1990s to pursue his MBA, after which he worked as a Product Manager for Micro Strategy, a business intelligence software organization.

Now, this was a time when the internet was starting to take off in the United States, and online companies like Netscape were among the first to go public, bringing optimism to others. Clearly, the internet had become the talk of the town and was on the verge of becoming a household name.

Anyway, his profession had only just begun, and in order to focus on it, he only returned to India once a year, primarily to relax. Because he didn’t have much to do while in India, he used to undertake web development work for other companies while sitting at his father’s office in the mid-90s.

At the same time, he ran across one of those old-school matchmakers who will go to any length to get you married. In order to protect his reputation, he attempted to place Anupam with some of his clients. A thought came to Anupam as he was reaching the pinnacle of his push, and it transformed his life forever!

Why and how did the People Group form?

Now, as he was attempting to get rid of the matchmaker, it occurred to Anupam that what if there was a portal that could operate as a virtual matchmaker for weddings, what if all of the information such men possessed was posted on the World Wide Web and made available to anyone looking for a bride or groom? This would not only eliminate all inefficiencies and geographical limits, but would also greatly simplify the procedure.

Initiation

As a result, Anupam published the first version of sagaai.com in 1997 without much thought. At the time, this was clearly more of an experiment than a stable enterprise. Despite the fact that he was active in the business as well, he only did so on weekends or so, and his primary attention remained on his employment.

He invested all of the money he had or had saved for the web module’s development simply because it was the thing that brought the money in.

Now, in the years 2000-2001, an intriguing turn of events occurred when the dot com bubble burst and most of the firms in the surrounding area went bankrupt.

Micro Strategy, the business with whom he was working at the time and which had a pre-dot com bust valuation of around $50 billion, had also entirely collapsed.

At the same time, Anupam came across Shariah [SP].com and observed that there were a lot of people in the United States who were really looking for life partners. He recognized that there was a significant pain point that they could address and that this had enormous potential!
