Zuckerberg is spearheading its focus on building next-generation technology. As one of the recent updates, the company announced Andrew Bosworth, the head of AR and VR, as Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer.

The global tech giant Facebook Inc. is in talks to be planning on changing the name of the company last week of October 2021 in order to represent the platform’s pivoted focus on setting up the metaverse as reported by The Verge.

Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has planned to talk about the company rename at the platform’s annual Connect conference which will be held on October 28, 2021. However, the name change of the company can be revealed sooner. The sketched out plan of changing name of Facebook is expected to signify the tech major’s goal of acquiring recognition of more than just a social media platform and overcome all the denunciations that the company has been accused of.

The forthcoming rebrand of the company is anticipated to position the Facebook app as one of the other apps which the parent rebranded company will oversee including WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus, etc.

Social media giant Facebook announced on October 18, 2021, that the company is chalking out plans to create 10,000 new high-skilled positions in the European Union over the next 5 years with the view of building a ‘metaverse’ . Facebook has selected target markets for the hiring process which comprises the Republic of Ireland, a part of the European Union, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland, as reported by Bloomberg.

The upcoming rebrand of the company will perhaps divide the future-oriented work that the company’s CEO is focused on and the scrutiny Facebook is under for the way it works and functions currently.

Besides Facebook planning to rebrand the tech platform, Google was also in the spotlight back in 2015, to reorganize completely under a holding corporation Alphabet. One of the reasons for reorganizing was to reflect that it was no longer just a search engine, but a diversified conglomerate with health-tech and highly advanced cars manufacturing corporations.

As brought into notice by The Verge, Facebook’s yet-to-be-disclosed company name is kept up the sleeves and is unknown to even the full senior leadership group. The foreseen name of the company is Horizon or something related to the term.

Facebook has been observed constantly, promoting the idea of building a metaverse and believes that it will contribute to the unparalleled evolution of the internet and virtual world.

Despite the significant focus on the term ‘metaverse’, many of us still are unaware of what it exactly stands for.

Metaverse is a term which is widely used to describe the concept of a future renewal and iteration of the Internet, created by using shared, 3D virtual spaces linked to a perceived virtual universe. It can be explained in general terms as a virtual-reality space in which people accessing the metaverse can interact with a virtual environment and other people using the space. The term was originally coined by Neal Stephenson, a science-fiction novelist, which is now starting to get recognition after Facebook and other well-known companies have started adapting the term.
