In a disturbing pre-dawn incident today, two buses collided on the Yamuna Expressway near Mathura, leaving many travellers injured. As per initial reports, over 40 people were hurt when the vehicles rammed into each other around 3 AM near Raya Cut, reportedly due to low visibility in dense fog.

Buses Collide on Yamuna Expressway

The Yamuna Expressway also known as the Taj Expressway is one of India’s busiest and most important roadways, connecting Delhi to major cities in Uttar Pradesh like Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan. Early morning is typically a time when numerous buses ply this crucial route, ferrying passengers to their destinations.

Eyewitnesses said visibility plunged to barely a few metres at the time of the accident, making it virtually impossible for drivers to notice each other. One bus travelling from Dholpur to Noida seemingly crashed into another en route from Etawah to Noida amid zero visibility. The strong impact led to chaotic scenes of injured individuals as emergency response teams rushed to aid them.

Luckily no deaths were reported, but per hospital officials, 31 seriously hurt people required hospitalization in Mathura’s district facility. Another 9 severely injured victims were shifted to other area hospitals for advanced critical care. Doctors said multiple passengers had severe injuries like fractures while a few suffered mild injuries as well.

Such fog-related collisions are unfortunately becoming increasingly common during winter months on northern Indian expressways including the Yamuna road. Lack of adequate safety precautions and awareness exacerbate risks to drivers struggling with poor visibility. Authorities should consider introducing new guidelines and resources like morehalting spots, better signage and speed governors to curb accidents in adverse weather.

Strong enquiries must also be conducted into this particular incident as it’s alarming that two sizable vehicles crashed into each other on a major expressway carrying many passengers. Stricter rules and stricter accountability could save lives and prevent such life-altering misery for unsuspecting travellers and their families. Wishing all injured persons a complete and fast recovery.

The double-decker buses involved in the collision were completely damaged due to the high-impact crash. Police officials launched an investigation to determine the exact causes. They will check drivers’ purported fatigue, medical fitness and compliance with safety norms. Significantly enhanced punishment is a necessity for negligence endangering numerous innocent lives. Preventing future tragedies must be of utmost priority to maintain public faith in expressway transportation. This incident should taken as a lesson to avoid futire mishaps.
