Vivo will launch its next flagship smartphone series in China in September, with the company placing mobile photography and high-frame-rate video at the centre of the upgrade.
The Vivo X500 series is expected to include three models: the Vivo X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max. Vivo has not announced the exact launch date, prices or international release schedule.
The range will succeed the X300 family, with Vivo skipping the X400 name. The company has confirmed improvements across video recording, photography, performance, display quality and software, although detailed specifications have only been shared for parts of the camera system.
Vivo product manager Han Boxiao revealed the first official imaging details ahead of the September presentation. The early information mainly concerns the Pro models, which will carry a new Zeiss-branded primary camera developed with input from Vivo’s Blueprint imaging team and Sony.
New Sony Sensor Targets Difficult Lighting
The Vivo X500 Pro models will use what Vivo calls the Zeiss Super Dynamic Main Camera. At its centre is a new 50-megapixel Sony sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches.
The sensor has appeared under different English translations, including Blueprint Phantom 900 and Blueprint Guangyu 900. Vivo claims that it can capture a dynamic range of up to 17 exposure values, or 17EV.
Dynamic range determines how much detail a camera can retain between the brightest and darkest areas of a scene. A wider range is particularly useful when shooting against strong sunlight, recording a person in front of a bright window or capturing night scenes containing illuminated signs and darker surroundings.
Vivo says the sensor’s high-dynamic-range capability will work during video recording as well as still photography. The company is presenting this as a way to preserve highlights and shadow detail in each frame rather than relying entirely on heavier processing after footage has been recorded.
The figure remains a manufacturer claim until the phones are released and independently tested. Vivo has not yet disclosed full information about the sensor’s pixel structure, lens aperture or processing pipeline.
Pro Models Bring Faster 4K Recording
Vivo has confirmed two major video modes for the new imaging system. The Pro range will support 4K 240fps video for slow-motion recording and 4K HDR recording at 120 frames per second.
Recording at 240fps allows footage to be slowed significantly while maintaining smooth movement. It could be useful for sports, fast-moving subjects and short action sequences. The 120fps HDR mode is intended to provide smoother footage while retaining a broader range of light and colour information.
The company has also announced a stronger stabilisation system. The X500 Pro Max will receive a main-camera optical image stabilisation mechanism with movement of up to three degrees, which Vivo describes as providing gimbal-level control.
The Pro models are also being promoted with a CIPA 7.0 stabilisation rating. The figure indicates a high level of compensation for camera movement, although real-world results will depend on factors including focal length, lighting and the selected video mode.
Vivo has not confirmed whether every announced recording mode will be available across both Pro devices at launch. Details such as recording limits, heat management, supported codecs and storage requirements are also still pending.
Certifications Point to 90W Charging
Regulatory listings in China have provided a limited view of the hardware outside the camera system.
A device associated with the X500 Pro Max has appeared with the model number V2602DA. The certification points to 90W wired charging, support for the n79 5G band and BeiDou satellite communication on the relevant Chinese version.
Another model linked to the X500 family has also been certified with a 90W power adapter. However, Vivo has not formally matched every model number in the regulatory records with its final commercial name.
The listings confirm compatibility with the certified chargers, but they do not reveal charging time, battery capacity or whether the charger will be included in every retail package. Wireless charging specifications have not been officially announced.
Reports have linked the Pro models to MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9600 series of processors. That information remains unconfirmed. Vivo has only promised a broader performance upgrade and has not named the processor, memory configurations or storage options.
Claims of batteries ranging from about 7,500mAh to 8,000mAh have also circulated, along with reports of large 2K OLED displays and a 200-megapixel periscope camera. None of those specifications has been confirmed by Vivo.
The same applies to reports about a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 200-megapixel telephoto sensor, Android 17 and Vivo’s next OriginOS version. These details should be treated as leaks until the company publishes the full specification sheets.
India Launch Details Remain Unclear
The September announcement has so far been confirmed for China. Vivo has not disclosed whether all three models will be sold outside its home market or whether the lineup will reach India.
The company has previously used different launch schedules and model selections for China and overseas markets. A certification listing associated with a possible global variant suggests that preparations outside China may be underway, but it does not confirm a release date or destination.
Pricing is also unknown. The X500 Pro Max is expected to occupy the top position in the initial range, while the standard X500 is likely to serve as the more accessible flagship. Any price estimates appearing before the launch remain speculative.
