Mothers are our creators and protectors. They embody both sides of calm and reserve, along with courage and determination. When time demands to take care of her children, she has the willpower to sacrifice everything just to help her children have a better future. We owe everything to our mothers. Today, the editorial witnessed the aura of a mother and her belief to create something that brings value to society. Our pen stopped and appreciated how mompreneurship is rising only to empower women and level the playing field of entrepreneurship. Today, we empower Swathi Varun, Founder of Yellow Spoon, aiming to scale her clean-label food brand for India’s growing health-conscious customers.
Swathi Varun built Yellow Spoon just about 2 years ago when she made some wheat and ragi crackers with a dip and sent it to Aryan Varun, her elder son’s school. Aryan sparked entrepreneurship within Swathi when she heard her son saying, “Hi Amma everyone loved it. Why don’t you sell them?” The beautiful feedback she received from her son’s friend took her to a pathway of entrepreneurship and she never looked back.
However, with an emotional expression, Swathi Varun experienced being overwhelmed by life where her younger son is restricted from having anything except home-cooked food due to maintaining a healthy upbringing. And this is because Swathi being the supportive mother she is, cares a lot for her sons. Thus, Yellow Spoon is built on the foundation of a mother’s love for his son. In just these few months, Yellow Spoon has scaled from a home-grown initiative to a commercial clean label brand.
Under the leadership of Swathi Varun, Yellow Spoon has diversified their products with Spreads, Energy Bites, Snacks, Curated gifting hampers and their most popular Dry Fruits Powder. Based on trust and transparency Yellow Spoon has unwinded the patriarchal mindset of society where mothers cannot focus on careers while taking care of their children and family. Swathi Varun adds that she could never have reached such success without the support from her husband, children, mother, brother and her sister-in-law, Ramya.
Yellow Spoon has brilliantly established an impressive clientele that includes Health-conscious families, Corporate organizations, Wellness-focused communities, Event curators and Gifting partners. Swathi Varun reflects on her journey and shares that she felt Yellow Spoon’s continued growth when Cognizant ordered 29,000 pouches of their famous Dry Fruits Powder for their New Year gift hampers.
Her unparalleled leadership skills and galactic resilience earned her distinguished awards like Best Emerging Food Brand of the Year – Food Connoisseurs India Awarded for innovation, commitment, and exceptional growth in the food category, Budding Mompreneur – mSocial, honoring moms making a difference in society and many others. Yellow Spoon have actively partnered with events like Vrikshadama Marathon (Hyderabad) and Veevibe Sports Kids Marathon, where they curated 2,000+ clean-label gift boxes.
Swathi says that products without meaningless chemicals and preservatives is not a luxury but a necessity in the current times. Throughout her journey, she faced challenges like societal judgements, a highly competitive market and creating holistic awareness programs about mindful eating and snacking. Her focus towards making the world a better place for her children inspired her and she says, “Don’t quit—the story you’ve started deserves a powerful ending.” For the future, Swathi Varun is strategic about scaling Yellow Spoon globally.
